Briana Short an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine whose academic focus is on medical education and wellbeing in the critical care setting. Her clinical expertise is in acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. She is the co-director of the pulmonary physiology course at the medical school and the associate program director of the pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. As the co-director of the pulmonary physiology course, she focuses on advancing innovations in medical education. Her work in the pulmonary and critical care fellowship focuses on advancing and standardizing airway training using simulation. She also serves as the Medical Director for Wellbeing for the Medical ICU and Medical Critical Care services. Some projects she has been involved in include an opt-out check in session with psychiatry and psychology for our fellows, improving access to mental health resources for critical care providers and working with a multidisciplinary team to imbed a clinical psychologist in our medical ICU.
