Helen L. Coons, Ph.D., ABPP is an Associate Professor, Director of Psychology, and Clinical Director, Women’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Services, Adult Division, Department of Psychiatry, University of Colorado School of Medicine. She was also the Co-Director, Women’s Sexual Health Consultation Service, Departments of ObGyn and Psychiatry from 2019-2022. In these roles, Dr. Coons oversees the integration of behavioral health services in women’s primary care, gynecology and the breast center at the University of Colorado Hospital. Dr. Coons received her PhD in Psychology (Clinical) from Temple University after completing her internship in medical psychology at Duke University School of Medicine. She was also a DHHS Primary Healthcare Policy Fellow. A board-certified clinical health psychologist, Dr. Coons specializes in women’s health and mental health, and integrated care in women’s health settings where she focuses on maternal mental health, pregnancy complications and loss, infertility, menopause, sexual health as well as psychosocial oncology. Dr. Coons is routinely asked to speak to interprofessional groups in primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, pelvic pain, and oncology. She also consults and serves on advisory groups at a national level on women’s health and mental health and perinatal mental health. Dr. Coons serves as a co-investigator on The Menopause and Minority Health Project to improve clinical care for persons from racially and ethnically diverse communities.
