Casey E. Cavanagh, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is the co-director of the Behavioral Medicine Consultation-Liaison service at UVA Health. She also provides assessment and psychotherapy in the outpatient UVA Behavioral Medicine Center, including patients with cardiovascular disease, and pre-surgical psychological evaluations for patients preparing for bariatric surgery and transplant patients. Dr. Cavanagh’s work focuses on identifying and proactively managing patients at risk for behavioral emergencies in medical inpatient settings. Additionally, Dr. Cavanagh’s work includes staff trainings on behavioral management and verbal de-escalation techniques.
