Dr. Tyrka is Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry & Human Behavior at Brown, where she also Co-Directs the Center on Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR). Director of the Laboratory for Clinical and Translational Neuroscience at Butler Hospital, Dr. Tyrka conducts her research on the environmental, biological, and behavioral mechanisms of risk for accelerated aging and poor health outcomes following early adversity. She studies adults and children to understand the metabolic, immune, (epi)genetic, and cellular aging effects of early trauma as mechanisms of risk for mood and anxiety disorders as well as medical conditions including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
