Dr Michael Sharpe MD FACLP is Emeritus Professor of Psychological Medicine at the University of Oxford, UK and a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist for Oxford University Hospitals.
His work aims to improve the lives of patients with medical illnesses by integrating psychiatric interventions into their care. To this end, he has published more than 320 research papers and established an integrated C-L psychiatry clinical service in the Oxford University Hospitals.
Dr Sharpe co-led The HOME Study, a large multicenter clinical trial evaluating the effectiveness of proactive integrated C-L psychiatry for older medical inpatients, with Dr Jane Walker.
Dr Sharpe is Past-President of ACLP and current President of the European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Integrated Care (EAPM). He is the recipient of the American Psychiatric Association Adolf Meyer Award for lifetime achievement in psychiatric research and also of the ACLP Eleanor and Thomas Hackett Award. He is passionate about using his experience to help others design and develop integrated healthcare systems, through the mentorship of clinicians, researchers, and clinical leaders.
