Dr. Rado is board certified in both internal medicine and psychiatry. For the twenty years he has been working at the interface of medicine and psychiatry. This has involved practice in primary care, psychiatric and integrated care settings. A key research interest has been in implementation of the collaborative care model in primary care settings.
At Northwestern, he designed and ran the first collaborative care program in the largest Northwestern primary care practice. Based on the success of this pilot, he lead a system-wide expansion of this program into all of the Northwestern primary care practices. This work involved gaining support of hospital leadership and educating primary care providers and staff on all aspects of this model. During the early phase of this roll-out, a significant amount of time was spent on optimizing and integrating depression screening into the staff workflow with coordinated referral to our program. Additionally, he has consulted with outside institutions including Chicago area FQHCs, on the implementation of collaborative care in a broad array of practice settings.
Since 2018, he has collaborated with implementation scientists at Northwestern on a type 2 hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized roll-out trial evaluating depression screening and program implementation in all of Northwestern's primary care internal medicine practices. This study has examined factors affecting acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility of collaborative care implementation in a real world setting.
