Dr. Kumar received her medical degree at Rush Medical College. She went on to complete both her residency and a fellowship in consult-liaison psychiatry at the University of Chicago Medicine. She is now an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Chicago Medicine and the Director of Medical Student Education for the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. She completed clinical medical ethics fellowship at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics, where she is now faculty. She is the Co-director of Transplantation Psychiatry at the University of Chicago.
