Assistant Professor
University of Cincinnati
Dr. Wagner is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and medical director of the adult inpatient psychiatric services at the University of Cincinnati. She completed her MD and PhD as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2012 with a scientific focus on Neuroscience. Her post-graduate clinical training encompassed completion of residency in a triple board training program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati and she is board certified in pediatrics, general psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry. Following residency, she took an academic attending psychiatrist position as a women’s mental health psychiatrist and, through peer supervision and clinical and research collaborations, gained an expertise in treating women with mental illness during times of hormonal transitions. These times of hormone transition include prior to, during and after pregnancy, mental health disorders related to hormone changes or the menstrual cycle including perimenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and menopause, and mental health disorders related to or affecting fertility. As women live within family systems, being triple boarded has served as an asset in bridging the clinical gaps between women’s mental health and child mental health. As a clinician-scientist, she collaborates with internists, obstetricians, women’s mental health psychiatrists and psychologists at both the University of Cincinnati and the University of Illinois with an academic focus that includes developing innovative care delivery models to help improve the diagnosis and treatment of perinatal mental illness and is active in research involving PMDD, suicide risk, and neurosteroids.
