Ben Kalivas is an assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina where he holds dual appointment in the departments of Medicine and Psychiatry. He attended medical school at MUSC as well as completed his combined internal medicine and psychiatry training here in Charleston. He practices as an academic hospitalist for the Department of Medicine and is a member of the Brain Stimulation group within the Department of Psychiatry. His academic and research interests lie in delirium, with an emphasis on screening for delirium in non-ICU patients. He is an active member of the American Delirium Society and serves as chairperson of the Membership Committee. He is also passionate about the education and mentorship of medical students and residents and serves as Program Director for the MedPsych Residency Program. He was won numerous departmental awards for his teaching. His interest in quality improvement and education has facilitated his transition into the role of Medical Director of GME Quality and Safety.
