Peter A. Shapiro, MD, FACLP, DLFAPA, completed his psychiatry residency and CL Psychiatry fellowship at what was once called Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and has been there ever since. He served as a general CL and heart transplant psychiatrist, CL fellowship program director, and CL Service associate director, and is now director of the CL Service and Professor of Psychiatry at what is now called the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His research has focused primarily on the autonomic and cardiovascular response to psycholgical stress and on psychiatric factors and outcomes in heart transplantation and heart disease. He was a co-investigator for the REMATCH, SADHART, and CODIACS trials. Dr. Shapiro is a past president of the Society for Liaison Psychiatry, the American Psychosomatic Society, and what was then the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and is now the ACLP. He has written a lot of papers and book chapters, and he is especially proud of the accomplishments and contributions to ACLP and CL Psychiatry of the many fellows and junior faculty he has worked with over the past many years.
