Dr. Sarah L. Laughon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2009, Dr. Laughon completed 2 years of training in Pediatrics at UNC before switching to Psychiatry. She completed her Psychiatry residency at UNC in 2014 and then completed fellowship training in Psychosomatic Medicine at UNC in 2015. Dr. Laughon joined the faculty at UNC in July of 2015 as a Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatrist. She is the Director and Physician Service Leader of the Adult Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service at UNC-CH Hospital. Dr. Laughon is passionate about working with burn-injured patients and collaborating with burn surgeons and staff to ensure this patient population receives the burn care they require, while also having access to psychiatric care during all phases of burn care and after discharge. Her goal is to more formally establish the subspecialty of Burn Psychiatry within CL Psychiatry and Burn Centers across the country. Additional interests include liaising with the solid organ transplant program, teaching, and improving the management of patients with critical illness and delirium.
