Dr. Aaron J. Hauptman is a pediatric and adult neuropsychiatrist and associate director of Neuropsychiatry at Kennedy Krieger Institute in the Department of Psychiatry. He is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hauptman completed medical school at University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. His General Psychiatry Residency was at The University of Texas at Austin, where he served as chief resident. This was followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where he was chief fellow in consultation/liaison psychiatry, and then a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hauptman was faculty in psychiatry for four years at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard University, where he was assistant professor of psychiatry, and began a pediatric neuropsychiatry training clinic, prior to coming to Kennedy Krieger.
Dr. Hauptman’s work and teaching focus on integrating an understanding of localization-based brain function and neurodevelopment into psychiatric formulation and treatment. This is grounded in his training in general adult psychiatry, child/adolescent psychiatry and neuropsychiatry/behavioral neurology. He has a particular interest in working with patients and their families struggling with neurobehavioral sequelae of neuro-genetic conditions with associated catatonia, pediatric neurodegenerative diseases, and pediatric neuroimmunological disorders.
