Emily Fries is a Senior Nurse Clinician for Inpatient Psychiatry at New York University Langone Medical Center and a founding member of the Behavioral Emergency Response Team. As one of NYULMC's Psychiatric Nurse Liaisons, she partners with CL psychiatrists to coach bedside nurses in how to provide trauma-informed and compassionate care to medical patients with co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses. Ms. Fries has worked as a psychiatric nurse since 2011 and is a student in NYU's Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Masters program.
In addition to being a member of the BERT team, Ms. Fries developed and teaches a class, "De-Escalation Techniques and the Crisis Team Leader Model" that combines evidence-based conflict management techniques with role-playing scenarios that reflect frequently encountered BERT situations. Ms. Fries also serves as a consultant for other hospitals who are considering starting BERT teams.
Ms. Fries is a second-career nurse and an avid New Yorker. She has nearly two decades of experience as a communications, fundraising and grant officer for international non-governmental organizations.
