Michael R. Kosorok, PhD, is W.R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Biostatistics and Professor of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a BM in music composition and an MS in Statistics from Brigham Young University in 1988; an MS and PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington in 1991; and an MM in music composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999. His research interests include biostatistics, artificial intelligence, reinforcement learning, empirical processes, and precision health. He was guest editor for the Journal of the American Statistical Association for a special issue on precision medicine and individualized policy discovery (appearing March and June of 2021)). He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is currently president-elect of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
