J. Michael Bostwick, MD, MFA, FACLP, is a psychiatry consultant at Mayo Clinic, Professor of Psychiatry in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, and Senior Associate Dean of Admissions for the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. His areas of research expertise include suicide epidemiology and assessment, medical marijuana, and end-of-life nomenclature. In 2022, he was awarded a Masters of Fine Arts degree in non-fiction writing from the Bennington College Writing Seminars and is working on a memoir about how suicide has played a role in his personal and professional life. He was scientific chair for the ACLP 2014 annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale, served two terms on the ACLP Board of Governors, and currently is a member of the Journal of Consultation Psychiatry editorial board. He won the Stoudemire Innovations in Educations Award in 2013 for the course he developed de novo for first-year Mayo medical students, “Disruptions in Development: A Pioneering Course for First-year Medical Students Taught at the Psychosomatic Interface,” and received the Eleanor and Thomas P. Hackett Memorial Award , ACLP’s highest honor, in 2020.
