Spam Emails Offering to Sell Conference Attendee Data

Each year in the months immediately prior to the annual meeting the Academy receives reports of unsolicited emails ("spam") offering to sell conference attendee data. The sellers are scammers offering false data and should be immediately deleted and ignored.

These emails are easily identifiably false, as they claim to offer a considerable amount of data on attendees that the Academy does not collect, and in absurd quantities (the Academy annual meeting will, one day, enjoy 3,700 attendees but that is still a few years away).

As a matter of policy, the Academy does not sell attendee data to anyone, ever.

The Academy cannot write to all members every year to alert them to spam emails. Please be on your guard and delete/ignore emails that claim to be acting on our behalf or make offers that cannot be demonstrably seen to be issued by the Academy, with Academy branding from a known Academy email.
